Statement

Date: July 12, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Pearce issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Separation of Powers Restoration Act, (H.R. 4768):

"New Mexicans know the consequences of an overly powerful Executive Branch that rules through executive fiat. The Separation of Powers Restoration Act, (H.R. 4768) seeks to restore proper boundaries between the branches of the United States government and stop the Executive Branch from overstepping its bounds. Separation of powers is one of the fundamental principles that allow our government to work and one the Founding Fathers held particularly important. The current Administration has consistently sidestepped the Constitution and is costing New Mexico jobs as a result. Today, my colleagues and I stood up to defend the Constitution by supporting this legislation that ensures that you, as citizens, have a government that works for you," said Congressman Pearce.
